Bright Spaces, Bold Connections:
Designing Harrison Hills
Rec Center
When designing Harrison Hills Rec Center, my goal was to create a space that felt warm, welcoming, and full of life—a place where design supports both connection and creativity.
Throughout the center, you’ll notice a vibrant palette and a mix of textures that invite people to linger and engage. We chose soft, durable carpet to add comfort underfoot while helping to soften acoustics in these active, social spaces. Artwork, color, and furnishings were selected not just for style, but for their ability to spark conversation and create a sense of energy and ease.
In the banquet room, we kept things flexible and approachable. The bold, modern art gives the room a dynamic focal point, while the neutral carpet and clean-lined furniture allow it to shift seamlessly from workshops to celebrations. It’s a space that adapts, always with an undercurrent of warmth.
The game room was designed to feel like an extension of home. Retro travel prints, cheerful fabrics, and saturated accent colors bring personality to the space, while layered lighting and thoughtful seating arrangements encourage people to relax, talk, and stay a while.

We carried that sense of purpose into the craft room, where bright lighting, practical finishes, and pops of color inspire creativity. Whether members are here for a class or simply enjoying some quiet time with a project, the room is designed to support connection and hands-on engagement. Just beyond, the recreation room offers another gathering space, with furnishings and layout designed to support both activity and downtime.
Every decision—from the art on the walls to the flow between rooms—was made with the people in mind. Harrison Hills isn’t just a rec center—it’s a shared space that feels vibrant, accessible, and alive with possibility.
